Making introductions

We are excited to share the news that our family will be growing later this year! Today's ultrasound revealed a healthy little boy who presented textbook images for many portions of the session.

An advantage (or disadvantage) of being "advanced maternal age" is being sent to the perinatologist for the ultrasounds, where they can also produce some 3-D images. These are both cool and freaky at the same time, and some images that the doctor described as "cute," reminded Ben and me of aliens and horror movies. Nevertheless, these images were not available to us when we had Jonah.

I've been feeling well thus far during the pregnancy (19 weeks), though I was extremely tired for a while, especially during Ben's business trips in April and May when I solo-parented for a number of weeks and weekends. Hopefully all continues as normal, as it did during my pregnancy with Jonah.

We've started to try to explain things to Jonah, but he doesn't fully understand at this point; he might grasp it a little more around the time his little brother arrives. When we told him last night that we were going to the doctor today to see pictures of the baby in my belly, he was seriously upset because HE wanted to go to the doctor ("JONAH to the doctor, JONAH to the doctor!"). Given his behavior at the last ultrasound, however, there was no way we were taking him with us.

We have many decisions to make in the coming months (names, housing situation, etc.), but today are happy in the knowledge that the baby is healthy and to share the news with friends.
